Olokun

Illustration from "African Tattoo Designs" by Yeye Siju Osunyemi (c)2007

The deity of the depths of the Oceans is known as both male and female. Olokun, Owner of the Ocean, represents psychic abilities and deep unfathomable wisdom, such as the mystery of birth, life, death and afterlife. In the Maafa, the disaster of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade, he has become identified as the patron Orisha of the African captives.
