African American History
The core of the Black malaise may well rest in the fact that the descendants of Africans in the United States are alienated from their cultural, spiritual and economic roots.
Even the
Wikipedia page on African American History
makes only cursory connections to the distinct ethnic group ancestors of African Americans.
Black History Month
The current controversy over whether or not there should still be a Black History Month centers on the belief that it is no longer relevant in America.
African history and culture
can not be separate. They are one seamless piece as witnessed upon spending time in any traditional African village or town.
African American History will be truly complete when through the modern technologies of genetic testing broad numbers of African Americans can connect to their ancestral roots. This connection will go far to heal the psychic wounds of slavery and colonialism.
